West Ham United are currently sitting in the Premier League’s top 10.
Sir Trevor Brooking has credited West Ham supporters for the ‘noise’ they made during their 2-0 win over Newcastle but did honestly admit that a lot of that depends on how the team plays.
The Hammers moved into their new surrounding during the summer of 2016 after leaving Upton Park, with the club struggling both on and off the field during their debut campaign.
In those three years, they have had three managers, including current boss Manuel Pellegrini, who has arguably produced the best football and performances to date.
Speaking to Radio 5 Live on the Monday Night Club (04/03/2019), club legend, Sir Trevor Booking offered his thoughts on the stadium and explained the one thing he would change.
“We are into the third season,” Brooking told BBC Radio 5 LIve. “I think it’s really probably that side where the team comes out is where you have got the directors box, strangely enough, is the furthest away from the pitch. If you could move that across track 40, 50 yards, that would definitely help.
“Having said that the noise for the game on Saturday was fantastic, but there was something unique to get that going [Billy Bonds’ stand opening] and that really kept it going.
“A lot of it does depend on how the team plays and in the first year we didn’t play as well as we have started to do this season. Nearly £100m was invested with the new manager coming and he’s made some really good signings.”
In the summer, the West Ham board appointed former Premier League winning manager, Pellegrini as manager then proceeded to back him in the transfer market.
Those signs of ambition are now showing their true colours on the field of play as the Irons are improving game by game, with a number of standout stars.
Midfielder Declan Rice has arguably been the club’s best player, while summer signing duo Felipe Anderson and Issa Diop have proven their worth on both ends of the pitch.
At home, Pellegrini’s side have recorded a point against title-chasers Liverpool, beaten Arsenal and not suffered a defeat in front of their own fans since January.
