Celtic legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has written in The Sunday Post that Jermain Defoe is a good signing for Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers.

Rangers have signed Defoe from Premier League club Bournemouth in the January transfer window.

The former West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur striker has joined Rangers on an 18-month loan deal.

Former Celtic and Liverpool forward Dalglish believes that Defoe is a good signing for Rangers.

Dalglish wrote in The Sunday Post: “To have captured Jermain Defoe on loan from Bournemouth is brilliant business.

“He may well want one or two more. But Steven isn’t under pressure to sell and that has to be a positive for him.

“Jermain may well be 36 and have had a number of clubs during his career, but I’m certain there will still be a hunger and burning desire within him to bring silverware to Ibrox. He will score plenty of goals.”

Stunning signing for Rangers

Defoe is 36 years of age and is past his prime, but the English striker keeps himself fit and will be able to do a very good job in Scotland.

Rangers are an attacking team, and chances will be created for Defoe, who is a sharp shooter and clinical in his finishing.

The Gers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 42 points from 21 matches, level on points with leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic, who have played 20 games.

The signing of Defoe has enhanced Rangers’ chances of winning the league title this season.
