Steve Bruce has left Newcastle United and a former chairman of the club wants a surprise name to replace him at St James’s Park.
Newcastle announced this morning that they had parted ways with the 60-year-old manager.
With the Magpies 19th in the Premier League and winless from eight games, his dismissal was inevitable.
Paulo Fonseca is strongly tipped to take the reins in the North East [Sky].
But Sir John Hall, a one-time chairman at Newcastle, wants to see Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger get the job.
He told talkSPORT: “I had tremendous regard for Arsene Wenger. He was an intellectual in the game and I’d be looking for the calibre of Arsene Wenger. That’s the kind of manager we need, a thinker and someone who knows which way the game is going.”
Is this realistic?
It would shock the fanbase – for good and bad reasons – but no, it isn’t a go.
Wenger is on the brink of turning 72 years of age but not only that, the iconic Frenchman has been out of the game since leaving Arsenal in 2018.
The former Gunner, who won three Premier League titles in North London, has taken up a job as FIFA’s chief of global development in recent years.
Wenger has not officially retired from the coaching side of the game and does occasionally get linked with vacant roles.
But it seems like Newcastle have made their mind up with regards to Fonseca.
