Sir Alex Ferguson compares Daley Blind to Darren Fletcher.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge fan of new signing Daley Blind.
The Scotsman believes the £14 million summer addition is going to be vital to balancing out the numerous attacking players at the club’s disposal.
Speaking to ManUtd.com, Ferguson said: “Daley Blind is one of those common-sense footballers who make up a team.
“He’s probably a version of Darren Fletcher of a few years ago, that type of player.
“He’s a good professional with common sense to his game. He keeps it simple and protects the defenders and the attacking midfielders in his role.”
Blind was last night involved in a disappointing international result for Holland as they lost to Iceland, but his displays for United have so far been impressive.
| Team | Pos | Pass Accuracy % | mins / Won Tackle | mins / Interception Won | mins / Key Pass | Apps | Mins | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daley Blind | Man Utd | MF | 88.93 | 40.00 | 30.00 | 120.00 | 4 | 360 |
| Darren Fletcher | Man Utd | MF | 88.89 | 67.00 | 44.67 | 134.00 | 4 | 268 |
Blind outperforms Fletcher in four key categories this season, winning tackles and interceptions more frequently, as well as creating chances. Even his pass accuracy narrowly betters the Scot’s.
Ferguson’s comparison is a good one, and the figures suggest the torch between the two is already in the process of being passed.
