Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers and Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic men are both said to be chasing Nick Powell.

And the Scottish boss was a big fan of Powell’s talents right from the first time he saw the Wigan Athletic midfielder play.
Ferguson revealed: “We watched him seriously from February. Mike Phelan went to see him a few times and so did our chief scout, Jim Lawlor. My brother Martin also went to see him against Torquay before I went for myself, with Mike, when Crewe played Aldershot.
‘We were thinking things over. We’d seen a few other Premier League clubs there at the game – Everton, somebody from Arsenal, somebody from Chelsea (they were very keen on Nick) – so we thought it was best to set the wheels in motion.
‘When Mick and I went to watch Nick Powell we came away and I said: “He’s definitely a player. There’s no doubt about that”.

Powell could turn into a bargain signing for Celtic or Rangers now, as his contract is expiring.
Celtic are said to have already offered a contract to Powell, but Rangers are now stepping up their pursuit of him.
It remains to be seen whether a move to Parkhead or Ibrox will appeal to Powell, but he could improve either of the Glasgow side’s attacks.
Rangers and Celtic are both currently locked on points in the race for the Scottish Premiership title, with both teams returning to league action after the winter break soon.
