Siniša Mihajlović has sadly passed away after a long battle with illness, following a leukemia diagnosis in July 2019.

The 53-year-old was pronounced dead earlier today, with tributes pouring in from all across the football family after the shock news.

Mihajlović received his leukemia diagnosis shortly after taking over at Bologna in 2019, undergoing a bone marrow transplant following three rounds of chemotherapy and eventually making a full recovery.

Unfortunately, he suffered a relapse back in March, and was unable to make another recovery.

In an official statement, Serie A – where Mihajlović has spent most of his football career, famed for his freekick goals – wrote: “Serie A is deeply saddened by the passing of Siniša Mihajlović, an icon of football and life.

“His pure class as a footballer and coach, his strength and his humanity are an example that leaves an indelible mark on Italian and world football.”

Mihajlović was actually sacked by Bologna back in September following a run which saw the Italian side win just three points in their first five league matches.

It was the final job of his illustrious career, which involved Serie A title wins with both Inter Milan and Lazio as a player, while he was also named Serbian Coach of the Year in 2019.
