Sinisa Mihajlovic comments on Arsenal signing Takehiro Tomiyasu

Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic has called on his players to follow the path of Arsenal’s deadline day signing Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Bologna managed to fend off interest in Tomiyasu right until the final day of the transfer window.

Sadly for them, Arsenal came in on the final day and lured Tomiyasu to North London.

Tomiyasu started for Arsenal against Norwich City on Saturday, and Bologna have started live without him.

Bologna played their first game without Tomiyasu on Monday, beating Hellas Verona 1-0.

Mattias Svanberg bagged the only goal of the game, sending Bologna up to sixth in the Serie A table.

Tomiyasu’s move to Arsenal was a topic of conversation after the game, with Mihajlovic talking about his rise to stardom.

Mihajlovic told Football Italia that the likes of Svanberg, Andreas Skov Olsen, Musa Barrow, Nicolas Dominguez and Aaron Hickey need to take a leap forward.

The Serbian added that, if Tomiyasu can reach the heights of Arsenal, then anybody in the Bologna team can – and that’s what they must aim for with more belief.

“There are so many: Svanberg, Skov Olsen, Barrow, Dominguez, Hickey and others. They have been here for some time, and I expect the leap in quality,” said Mihajlovic.

“They have room for improvement, but they have to believe more in themselves. The path of Tomyiasu must be an example for everyone. If he did it, everyone can do it,” he added.
