Trevor Sinclair has claimed that Harry Winks would be ‘excited’ about joining ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’ in Manchester City amid rumours, as he told TalkSport (15/08/20 at 10:55 am)

The Sun have reported that Manchester City are planning a £40 million bid for the Spurs midfielder.

There’s no doubt that this rumour is one of the more surprising ones of the summer and it would shock many if a deal is concluded.

Former City winger, Sinclair, stated that Winks is ‘clever’ enough to play for Pep Guardiola and he thinks the move makes ‘sense’.

“I can understand it,” Sinclair told TalkSport. “I really can. I think he’s a really good professional.

“I feel he is a player that Pep, and you know how he comes across he wants things exactly and we are talking about meticulous detail, and I think Harry Winks is clever enough to be able to take that information on board.

“He gets around the pitch well. He’s got brilliant basics when you talk about technical ability, keeping the ball safe and passing it to players that have got a little bit more creativity than him. I can understand it.

“You look at the team. Fernandinho is playing centre-back quite a lot for Manchester City. He’s not going to be around too much longer because of his age – it makes sense to me and I think Harry Winks would be excited about joining one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

Winks is a technically gifted footballer, who sits in that number 6 or number 8 role and brings the best out of the more attack-minded and creative players ahead of him.

The England international is very good at moving the ball forward when in tight spaces and deep in his own half and ensuring he does the simple things correctly.

Whilst Winks lacks the creativity of his fellow countrymen, James Maddison or Jack Grealish, it does seem as though he has an admirer in Guardiola, who knows a top-rated midfield player when he sees one.
