On August 30th, Sampdoria completed the signing of Harry Winks on loan from Tottenham for the 2022/23 campaign.

The move came after both Everton and Leeds walked away from negotiations with Spurs over a deal for the 26-year-old, who preferred to stay in the Premier League.

Eventually, Winks had to settle for a move to Italy, where things have started slowly.

What’s the story?

Well, Marco Giampaolo has been speaking about the England international, who has endured a different start to life in Serie A.

Winks has only been fit enough to take part in one training session for the Italian side, and the 55-year-old admits he has no idea when he will be able to use his new signing.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Giampaolo said: “Since he arrived from Spurs, he only had one training session with us and nothing else. I hope he will be able to come back soon. I really don’t know when Harry will be available.”

Winks is yet to make an appearance this season, having made just nine Premier League starts last term.

Unfortunately, the Hemel Hempstead-born midfielder’s career is seriously stagnating, and we hope he can turn things around at Sampdoria once he regains full fitness.

Tottenham may have priced Harry Winks out of a better move

As aforesaid, Everton and Leeds walked away from negotiations despite the fact Winks wanted to stay in the Premier League.

That was most likely down to the fact that Daniel Levy wanted £20m for the Spurs academy graduate, which is a bloated valuation for someone who is far from a vital player under Antonio Conte.

Had Tottenham valued Winks at £10m or a sum in that region, he might have got his wish of a move to another Premier League side, where his career has a better chance of resurrecting than it does in Italy – in our view.

Hopefully, Winks will soon become a key player for Sampdoria, and prove himself over in Italian football after taking a brave step abroad.
