Sunderland were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in their most recent outing.
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 6th March, that he hopes Sunderland stay up this season.
Sunderland are currently stuck at the bottom of the Premier League table, and they appear to be in serious danger of being relegated.
And Mignolet, who used to represent Sunderland earlier on in his career, insists that he wants Sunderland to stay up.
“Actually yesterday, I was cheering for them as they could have done us a favour,” Migonlet said when asked if he thinks Sunderland are doomed.
“I still have contact with a lot of people up there, and I still want them to stay up. They gave me a chance to play in the Premier League, and I’ll never forget that.”
Migonlet represented Sunderland for three years, between 2010 and 2013, and he impressed at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in their most recent outing yesterday.
David Moyes’ side put up a good fight against City, but they were undone by goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane.
Sunderland are now six points adrift of safety, with just 11 games to go this season.
The Wearsiders are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Burnley.
