Former Crystal Palace chairman was impressed by Leeds United’s following at Fulham on Tuesday night and says the club is awake again despite the efforts of Italian co-owner Massimo Cellino.

Reports suggest Leeds could have had as many as 7,200 supporters at Craven Cottage, where Tom Cairney’s late equaliser denied the Whites victory in the capital.

Despite the result, Leeds remain fourth in the Championship and, crucially, eight points clear of the Cottagers, who occupy seventh position.

English top-flight winners in 1992 and Champions League semi-finalists nine years later, the Yorkshire side have endured a mostly difficult 21st century, in which they spent three seasons in League One and have finished in the top-half of the second tier only twice before now.

Cellino’s two-and-a-half-year tenure has been particularly turbulent, with current boss Garry Monk the sixth to be hired by the former Cagliari owner – referred to by Jordan as a ‘loon Italian’.

He tweeted: “Tonight #lufc have taken 5000 fans to London on a Tuesday night ..this is a proper football club that is awake again despite a loon Italian”.

However, when put to the 49-year-old businessmen that the Premier League needs Leeds, Jordan replied: “Needs might be stretching it a bit..but #epl will be a better place with a fit and well run #lufc with no Santa Risdale ..just loon Italian”.
