Crystal Palace are currently looking for a new manager after sacking Patrick Vieira on Friday.

The Eagles opted to part company with the 46-year-old following a 12-match winless run at the club.

Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Brighton was their third defeat in a row.

Palace haven’t won a match in 2023 and sit 12th in the table, three points above 18th-placed Bournemouth.

As is always the case when a managerial vacancy opens up, plenty of names have been linked with the Eagles reins.

The Mirror has listed seven coaches who could be in the running for the role, including Frank Lampard.

Palace were reportedly in talks with Lampard in 2021, after Roy Hodgson had left the Selhurst Park role.

Since then, the 44-year-old has managed at Everton, but things didn’t go to plan and he was sacked earlier this year.

Jordan, speaking on talkSPORT, urged Palace not to return for Lampard or go for Steven Gerrard either.

“We need nine points to stay in this division and how are we going to get them out of 11 games?” he asked.

“Whether it is a short-term fix, you have to get nine-ten points to get yourself in this division next year and then look broader.

“If you start veering into the territory of people like Lampard or Gerrard, well…

“Lampard was interviewed by Palace a couple of years ago and they didn’t want him then so what has changed?

“He would have got Everton relegated – he was a disaster at Everton towards the end.

“Gerrard was a disaster at Aston Villa. Why would any one of those guys be a fix?”

Tricky decision

Sacking a manager with just a few weeks left of the season always presents challenges.

Palace probably won’t be able to bring in anyone currently employed until the summer.

One exception could be Nuno Espirito Santo, if he fancies another go at Premier League football.

Obviously you’ve also got Roy Hodgson, who is said to be the frontrunner for the job.

He’d be a good option until the end of the season.

But as for Lampard and Gerrard, they struggled in their latest top-flight jobs, so it might be best to avoid them for now.
