New Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is set to start work at Ibrox on June 1.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has told TalkSPORT that he believes that Rangers’ decision to land Steven Gerrard as manager is nothing more than a “showboat move”.
Gerrard, 37, has signed a four-year deal at Ibrox in what is his first step into senior management, following his retirement from professional football in 2016 after a short stint in the MLS with LA Galaxy.
The Liverpool legend boasts one of the biggest reputations in world football, and his appointment has seen optimism and excitement burst through the roof in Glasgow.

But Jordan, who is renowned for his controversial views when it comes to footballing topics, told Alan Brazil’s Breakfast Show that Gerrard’s move to Ibrox has “no substance” and compared it to Everton signing Wayne Rooney last summer.
“Wayne Rooney is a showboat signing [at Everton]”, Jordan said. “It’s like Rangers taking Steven Gerrard. To my mind, there’s no substance behind that. It’s a showboat move.”

Since his retirement, Gerrard has been working with BT Sport as a pundit as well as taking control of Liverpool’s Under-18 side in what has been seen as preparation for his first senior job.
Now, he is set to take over the reigns at Ibrox ahead of what is a crucial summer as the Gers need to recruit wisely in order to close the gap between themselves and Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Rangers themselves currently sit in third with one game to play, but they could leapfrog Aberdeen into second on Sunday if they beat Hibernian at Easter Road and Celtic avoid defeat against Derek McInnes’ side.
