Rooney’s future at Everton is in doubt, and now former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan has had his say.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has told TalkSPORT that he does not believe Everton icon Wayne Rooney would get into Roy Hodgson’s side.

The Washington Post claim the 32-year-old is in serious talks with MLS side DC United over a move to America, with his future at Everton in doubt despite being a regular member of the Toffees side.

Rooney is said to have become frustrated with Allardyce’s incessant need to remove the former England captain from the pitch – normally early on in the second half – which led to talks between the two.

Asked whether Rooney would get into Palace’s side, former Eagles owner Jordan believes he would not because Palace play a fast-paced style that would not suit the ageing ex-Manchester United star.

“I’m not so sure he would get into a lot of Premier League sides if you want to play dynamic football at the pace the Premier League now plays at,” Jordan said. “Would he get in the Palace side?

“You’d have to ask Roy Hodgson that and how he wants to set up. I suspect, probably not. That’s not an attribution of Wayne Rooney’s overall capabilities, that’s how Palace play, they’re a counter-attacking side. Rooney has no pace.”

Crystal Palace Chairman Simon Jordan talks to the press during the Crystal Palace Press Conference to announce their new Manager at Selhurst Park on December 22, 2003 in London.

Returning to Goodison Park in the summer from United, Rooney has made 40 league and cup appearances for the Toffees this season and has scored 11 goals as well as laying on three assists.

He has one more year remaining on the two-year deal he signed last summer on Merseyside, which BBC Sport claim is worth a huge £150,000 a week.
