Speaking on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Simon Jordan has been discussing Bukayo Saka and his future at Arsenal.

The young winger is heading into the final two years of his contract and, understandably, there has been plenty of speculation about his future at the Emirates.

Indeed, Liverpool and Manchester City have both been credited with an interest and it looks as though Saka could leave if Arsenal don’t step up their game in the next 12 months.

Jordan believes that it would be a massive failure for Arsenal if Saka is allowed to leave in the near future.

What’s been said?

Jordan spoke about the idea of Saka leaving the club.

“Arsenal should not want to sell any players that have come through their youth system that have been developed under their regime and mentality, that have come into their first-team. All of their endeavours through the academies to bring a young player through and then not be able to give him a new contract,” Jordan said.

“There’s an argument to suggest that players in his position will be looking for achievements within clubs, they’ll be dictating to the club what the club has got to do rather than what they have to do.

“It will be a disappointing day at Arseanl if they don’t find the keys to the door to unlock the problem that they have with this kid signing a new contract. That would be a massive failure on the part of Edu, Arteta and anyone else involved in this boy’s career.

“He should sign a new contract and they should want him to sign a new contract, they should find a solution, but like anything, the balance of power has shifted towards the player.”

Era-defining

Saka’s future may well define the coming era at Arsenal Football Club.

This young man has long been earmarked as the future face of the Gunners, but if he leaves before he even hits his peak, questions have to be asked about the north London club’s long-term future.

What’s the point of developing players like this if they’re not going to lead you to glory? Yes, they’d make a huge profit on Saka, but at the same time, they need to be keeping their homegrown stars.

If Saka leaves, the domino effect could be disastrous – what would the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe think if Saka ditched Arsenal before they can reach their potential?

Arsenal need to make sure Saka is tied down to a long-term deal very soon.
