Former Crystal Palace chairman says West Ham accepted a bid.

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has told TalkSport that the club nearly signed Michael Carrick back in 2004.
Jordan owned Palace for a decade before leaving the club in 2010, and in 2004 the Eagles had just won promotion to the Premier League.
Moving in the opposite direction were West Ham, who had just suffered relegation from the top flight and their top players like Carrick were the subject of substantial interest.
Jordan, speaking to Jim White on Monday (13/2) at 11am on TalkSport, said that the Hammers accepted an offer for Carrick but they never got as far as speaking to the player.
He said: “We had a bid accepted for Carrick by West Ham for £3.5 million in that transfer window, but he didn’t speak to Dowie. I had to speak to Dowie unfortunately.”
Carrick made the controversial decision to depart West Ham for rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who signed him for the same fee that Palace offered.

He spent two seasons at White Hart Lane before moving to Manchester United for £18 million in 2006.
Carrick went on to win the Champions League in 2008, and has won the Premier League five times with the Red Devils, as well as the FA Cup and League Cup once each, while earning 34 international caps.
