Simon Jordan has questioned what Timo Werner’s possible arrival at Tottenham Hotspur will do for someone like Richarlison and how fans will view Daniel Levy.
HITC Football understands that the RB Leipzig forward had his medical at Tottenham on Sunday ahead of a proposed loan deal until the end of the season.
Some will argue that Tottenham really haven’t replaced Harry Kane yet, even though they have shown little signs that they have missed him out on the pitch.
But this possible deal for Timo Werner is low-key, in terms of finances, and Simon Jordan was keen to defend Daniel Levy on that matter, as he told talkSPORT (08/01/24 at 11:40 am).
The English businessman is good friends with the Tottenham chairman and he thinks there will be some people ready to ‘bash’ the unpopular Daniel Levy for it.

It’s clear that for the period the Spurs talisman will be out for, someone like Timo Werner can fill in, but what about Richarlison?

“Does he do anything for Richarlison,” asked Jordan. “Does he give something to Richarlison by being a willing runner?
“For someone who runs into the channels and creates chances. Like Darwin Nunez was doing in the second half for Liverpool (against Arsenal), which was constantly coming in from the left-hand side and creating chances.
“There is this thing about Richarlison that I always felt as a player he can do something quite significant if he got himself together and stopped walking around like impending doom. Heurelho Gomes spoke about Richarlison and what he was like off the field as a boy and the difficulties he would have had in the last season or so. He is beginning to score goals for Spurs now.
“Son is out of commission for a period of time. Can you see any footballing reason behind (signing Werner) other than this being another body that Daniel (Levy) might be prepared to sanction economically? It doesn’t look like a great on-paper decision, does it?!
“Those that want to bash Daniel Levy will say ‘this is a typical Spurs transaction and it involved very little capital outlay’. He can come in and do a job. If he doesn’t, then the economic hardship isn’t there.”
Tottenham have very little to lose
Look, the first thing everyone is going to do is highlight Werner’s ill-fated spell at Chelsea and use that to claim that he will struggle in north London.
But the fact of the matter is he is more mature, wiser, and experienced, playing under less pressure at Spurs and in a style that suits him.
Not only that, there isn’t a massive transfer fee over his head.
Under Ange, the goalscoring onus isn’t on him, but on others, so that will also help Werner’s cause because he can play that back-up role, which is far different from being tasked with being the main guy at Chelsea.
And if it does go wrong, it’s only a loan and Spurs can send him back, so they have little to lose.
