Simon Jordan reacts to Conte’s call amid Tottenham transfer rumour

Simon Jordan has claimed that Steven Bergwijn has ‘a lot of ability’ but he falls ‘short’ of what Antonio Conte wants from his players at Tottenham, as he told talkSPORT.

Tottenham are ready to sell the winger to Ajax and Jordan added that the player in question came to Spurs with a ‘huge fan fair’.

Back in 2020, with Jose Mourinho in the dugout, Bergwijn was signed from PSV Eindhoven and he made himself known straightaway by scoring the winning goal on his debut against Manchester City.

It was some entrance from the Dutch forward, but that would prove to be one of the very few highlights and top-quality moments he would produce in a Spurs shirt.

The 24-year-old is now heading for the exit door and signing for Ajax, as Jordan thinks the club have done well to secure £25.8 million for the player (Guardian).

“He came in with a huge fan fair,” said Jordan. “And a lot of adoration from Jose Mourinho. I think he optimises certain aspects of Tottenham that Conte is beginning to get rid of.

“People that can do it, but don’t do it enough and don’t have the substance that requires to build a substantial team. Whilst he has some innate talent, getting him out for the money they have virtually purchased him for is probably good business for Tottenham.

“It starts to clear the decks for Conte-type of players. He’s not a Conte type of player. He’s a player that will dip in and out. Clearly, he has a lot of ability.

“But at the level Conte wants his players to operate, then I think he’s short.”

KULUSEVSKI OUT-DOING BERGWIJN

From Bergwin’s 60 Premier League games, he scored seven goals and supplied six assists, including a stunning stoppage-time brace against Leicester City last season.

But Tottenham’s new boy, Kulusevski, who joined during the January transfer window, has done more and outdone his fellow teammate in a shorter space of time.

From the Juventus star’s 18 Premier League matches, he found the back of the net on five occasions and supplied eight assists, all during his first six months of the club.

Those performances played a huge part in Tottenham securing Champions League football last season and that short period for the Swede was far bigger than what the soon-to-be departing Bergwijn produced.
