Former Crystal Palace chairman has responded to Kevin Phillips’ suggestion that Sunderland could be better off for their impending relegation from the Premier League.
Phillips told Talksport that dropping into the Championship could allow his old side to have a clear out of players and start afresh, as north east rivals Newcastle United have proved.
Jordan, though, believes he has spotted a flaw in the ex-striker’s logic, and explained so on Twitter.
Responding to a tweet on the matter, the 49-year-old businessman wrote: “Yes that sounds logical ;Ellis short [the Sunderland owner] fed up in #Epl will be really motivated by the championship..no one wants #safc players …utter tripe.”

Despite Jordan’s comments, Sunderland pair Jordan Pickford and Jermain Defoe are already said to be attracting interest should the Mackems go down, and their departures would significantly boost both the club’s transfer and wage budgets ahead of next season.
Additionally, the contracts of high earning trio Sebastian Larsson, Jan Kirchhoff and John O’Shea are among those due to expire.
Jordan’s former club Palace paid around £10 million to sign Sunderland defender Patrick van Aanholt in January, money which was put towards the signings of Bryan Oviedo and Darron Gibson.
