Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan admits he cannot ‘see’ Kalvin Phillips joining the Premier League outfit from Manchester City this month.
As we enter the second half of the January window, it appears that Kalvin Phillips is no closer to escaping his backseat role at Pep Guardiola’s treble-winners than he was three weeks earlier.
Talks with Newcastle United appear to have ran aground. Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli also appeared to rule out a move to Turin, either for Manchester City’s £47 million forgotten man or Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg too.
Jordan, meanwhile, is not holding his breath on Phillips arriving at Selhurst Park either, even after Roy Hodgson seemingly opened the door for the England international to swap the North West for South London.
Crystal Palace linked with Manchester City man

“It could be a Conor Gallagher sort of move,” Jordan tells talkSPORT (17 January, 12.30pm), drawing comparisons with a deal which saw another Three Lions midfielder rock up at Palace from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.
“(But) I don’t see, and I’d be happy to eat my words, Kalvin Phillips going on loan to Crystal Palace.”
A year-and-a-half on from his big-money move from Leeds United – and with a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championships under threat – Phillips is crying out for a fresh start. He’s played fewer than 90 Premier League minutes all season, with Guardiola all-but confirming that the 28-year-old is no longer part of his long-term plans at the Etihad Stadium.
Roy Hodgson is a Kalvin Phillips fan
“He’s a good player,” Hodgson, Southgate’s England predecessor, tells The Standard. “I would like to think that if Kalvin Phillips is available and a possibility for the club…
“Once again, there will be financial restrictions. Who knows whether the club feels they will be able to afford that. (But) if you’re talking about the level of player, I don’t feel there will be many managers who would not say: ‘Yeah, we will be really happy to have him come to the club.’
“All we know, like most other clubs, is that there is a possibility that Man City will either sell him or loan him. If they are purely going to sell him, then I don’t think we will be in the market. If they’re going to loan him, I would like to think that we could possibly put our hand up and push ourselves forward.
“What we could then of course offer is the chance to play regular football in the Premiership, in the build-up to what will be a very important summer for England and for him.”
Hodgson also expressed his admiration for Daniel Munoz, the free-scoring full-back who could join from Genk for around £10 million.
