Simon Jordan believes Newcastle United are right to stand firm as Bayern Munich walk away from the Kieran Trippier deal while predicting a Premier League exit for fellow defender Jamaal Lascelles.

As Bayern director Christoph Freund drew a line under the club’s chase of the England international on Wednesday, the Bundesliga champions were once again left with a face as red as their iconic home shirt.

Their aborted pursuit of Kieran Trippier means another high-profile transfer target – after Fulham powerhouse Joao Palhinha and Tottenham’s £26 million newbie Radu Dragusin – has slipped through the fingers of the Bavarian giants (Sky Sports).

HITC Football understands that Bayern failed with a bid of just shy of £13 million this week, accepting defeat as they were unable to bridge a £7 million gap between the fee they were willing to pay and the fee Newcastle United wanted.

And while Simon Jordan is not usually too keen to praise the team from Tyneside, he feels that The Magpies made the right call when they refused to budge on Trippier’s valuation.

Newcastle reject Bayern Munich bid for Kieran Trippier

“Bayern did not give them enough reason to sell him,” Jordan tells talkSPORT (25 January, 10am). “£12 million is what they bought him for (from Atletico Madrid two years ago).

“I think if Bayern had put in £25 million, he would be gone, but they didn’t.”

Jordan, the former Crystal Palace chairman, also commented on the speculation suggesting that Jamaal Lascelles could join a throng of experienced Premier League expats in Turkey, Besiktas reportedly keen.

Trippier is staying but the situation regarding Lascelles, a free-agent in July, is far more fluid.

“As far as Jamaal Lascelles is concerned, I think he will go,” Jordan adds. “Because he is in the final year of his contract.”

Jamaal Lascelles could move to Turkey

Lascelles has played 22 games under Eddie Howe this season, captaining Newcastle in five of their six Champions League group-stage games. Newcastle may seize the chance to cash in, however, with Miguel Almiron another the club are open to offers for in order to ease those Financial Fair Play concerns.

HITC Football understands that Almiron is open to joining Allan Saint-Maximin in Saudi Arabia. Joelinton is another who’s future is uncertain, contract talks having broken down.
