Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan insists he would not take Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Roy Hodgson’s replacement and says the ex-Manchester United boss is simply not ‘a Premier League manager’.

It remains one of football’s biggest riddles.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; a net-positive or a net-negative at Manchester United? Was a he a success – relatively-speaking – or a failure? Was that second-place finish, that Europa League final and a number of near-misses sympomatic of a coach who had a hotch-potch collection of players performing above expectations?

Or did his presence hold back the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani, and Marcus Rashford?

It’s safe to say Simon Jordan, an outspoken critic of the now-unemployed Norwegian, belongs in the latter category. So much so that, should Crystal Palace come calling once Roy Hodgson’s second spell at the helm comes to an end, Jordan would be the first to express his concerns.

Solskjaer still out of work after Manchester United sacking

“I think (Solskjaer) presided over a period of decline in Manchester United, in standards and outcomes. The repercussions were far more damaging than people have given credit for,” Jordan tells talkSPORT (12 September, 12pm).

“I think he’s probably a very decent football person. But is he a leader? I think he was very fortunate to have got the job. I dislike the rewarding of mediocrity. It was the bland leading the bland.

“No (I would not take him at Crystal Palace). Come on.

“I mean, look, he had good-quality players at Manchester United and they carried him to a certain point. But when you’ve got into a situation where you’ve got decent Premier League footballers who require a different type of management, I don’t see him as a Premier League manager.”

50-year-old Solskjaer has been out of work since being let go by United following a dismal run of form in late-2021.

According to The Standard, the 1999 Champions League winner recently turned down the chance to take over the Norwegian Women’s national team.
