Simon Jordan told talkSPORT (11/08/21 at 12:50 pm) that Aston Villa signing Danny Ings was a ‘strange one’.
The former Crystal Palace owner shared that Ings has ‘moved marginally upwards’ by swapping St Mary’s for Villa Park this summer.
In a bolt out of the blue, before announcing the departure of Jack Grealish, Villa brought in Ings from Southampton and paid £25 million for his services (BBC Sport).
But Jordan didn’t seem too convinced with Ings moving to the Midlands.
“Danny Ings, for me, is a streaky player,” said Jordan. “I will be interested to see if he gets into Aston Villa’s side and does what he did at Southampton.
“It’s a strange one because Southampton aren’t a club that’s in descent. Yet, he has moved marginally upwards to Aston Villa.
“It wasn’t so long ago that Southampton were talking about making him their highest-paid player.”

The arrival of Ings will no doubt result in a change of formation from Dean Smith ahead of the new season.
Villa have been trialling two up top during pre-season and it will be interesting to see how they line up against Watford on Saturday.
Ollie Watkins can play out wide, as he did under Smith at Brentford, so there are many formations that Villa can play with.
One thing is for sure, Villa have the goals in their team, it’s just a case of striking that balance and ensuring their defence remains tight at the back.
