Simon Jordan believes Tottenham will have to pay upto £80m for Palace’s Wilfried Zaha

Zaha has signed a new five-year deal at Palace, after being linked with Spurs this summer.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has claimed on TalkSPORT that Tottenham Hotspur will not have to pay between £70million and £80million to buy Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha – after he signed a new contract.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Tottenham over the past couple of transfer windows, and showed just why during the 2017-18 campaign with Palace. He scored nine goals and created five in 29 league games.

Now, Palace have tied down their star man by offering him a new five-year contract which will last until the summer of 2023 – blowing away interest from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

But Jordan, who owned Palace for a decade between 2000 and 2010, claims the contract is to show Spurs or any other interested sides that they must pay full asking price for Zaha – which Jordan reckons is between £70million and £80million.

“Getting him back on a five-year contract will enhance the value Palace can demand for him,” Jordan said. “So while I think it’s good news on one hand, it could also be the basis of commanding the right value for Zaha, with is in the £70-80million bracket.

“And while some people snigger behind their hands, educated people in football understand how good Wilfried Zaha is, will be and will continue to be. So it’s good news, but balance it with the fact there’s probably some economics behind it.

“Palace are establishing and holding the value of the player in the event that a Chelsea, Tottenham or Arsenal come knocking on their door next year.”

Ivory Coast international Zaha showed just how effective he could be for Palace this season by scoring in the Eagles opening-day win over newly-promoted Fulham – one of Roy Hodgson’s former sides.

Tottenham, meanwhile, failed to sign a single player in the summer window despite being heavily linked with Zaha and the likes of Malcom, Matthijs de Ligt and Jack Grealish.
