Sunderland are believed to be interested in Bury striker James Vaughan.
Grayson has confirmed that Sunderland are interested in snapping up Vaughan, after his goalscoring exploits in League One last term.
However, Grayson believes that reports of an offer for the former Everton man are premature.
“I know there’s negotiations or talks going on between the two clubs, I’m not sure what level it is, I’d be surprised if it has reached that level [a £900,000 bid],” he said.
“He’s a player I’ve worked with, know a lot about, and we have to bring in the right bodies whether it be James Vaughan or any other players that we’ve been linked with. If we bring James Vaughan to this football club it is because we think he’ll affect the squad in a different way to what we’ve already got.”
Sunderland are in need to strengthen their attacking options, as they have lost Fabio Borini and Jermain Defoe this summer.
The Black Cats relied on Defoe to score the bulk of their goals last term, and they need to cover that void next term.
Vaughan was one of the most prolific scorers in League One during the previous campaign, when he knocked in goals regularly for Bury.
Vaughan scored 24 goals in 37 matches for Bury last season, and will be hoping to carry that form into Sunderland, if he does make the move to Wearside.
