Leeds United finished the Championship season in third place before suffering play-off semi-final heartache to Derby County.

Simon Grayson has agreed with Marcelo Bielsa that Leeds United won’t be able to replicate their form from this season because of the ‘overachievement’.

After Leeds missed out on automatic promotion, Bielsa warned that his current players won’t be able to reproduce their current performances again because of the high demand on his players, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

Since walking through the doors of Elland Road last summer, Bielsa has worked wonders with a team that finished mid-table during the previous campaign by guiding them to a third-placed finish – their highest league finish since relegation from the Premier League.

Speaking to Jim White on TalkSport (20/05/2019 at 12:30 pm), Grayson shared his thoughts on Bielsa and these current group of players overachieving.

On what could happen under Bielsa next season: “One of his quotes before last two or three games is that he doesn’t think this group of players will be able to replicate what they’ve done this season because of the high demands,” Grayson told TalkSport. “That’s because of the overachievement. So, what do you do then as a manager?

“You walk away to another club or you ask for funds to get invest in new players and freshen it all up. When you start the season winning, the players have brought into it. You lose a few games and it’s like the worse thing you can do.”

A big few weeks and months await Leeds United. A lot of what does or doesn’t happen in the summer will more than likely reflect on what will happen to the club next season.

If the Yorkshire outfit can keep hold of Bielsa and bulk up their squad then they’ll no doubt be a serious threat for those top two spots again.

But if it goes the opposite way for the club for one reason or another then they find themselves struggling in what is an already competitive league.
