Simon Grayson suggests Robbin Ruiter needs to improve

Sunderland signed Robbin Ruiter in the summer transfer window.

Sunderland manager Simon Grayson has told The Shields Gazette that goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter needs to improve.

Ruiter joined Sunderland in the summer transfer window on a two-year contract, as reported by BBC Sport.

The 30-year-old moved to the Black Cats after leaving FC Utrecht at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Dutchman has made five appearances in the Championship for Sunderland so far this season.

Ruiter is not guaranteed a place in the Black Cats’ starting lineup and has to fight with Jason Steele, who also moved to the Stadium of Light in the summer transfer window.

Sunderland manager Grayson has suggested that Ruiter needs to improve, just like other players.

Grayson told The Shields Gazette about Ruiter: “Does he need to improve? Of course he does.

“But does every other player need to improve too? Of course they do. We need to get B pluses or A minuses to get to where we want to get to.”

Sunderland got relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Black Cats are struggling in the Championship at the moment, and there is a danger that they could go down to League One at the end of the season.
