Sunderland boss Simon Grayson has made a solid start to life at the Stadium of Light.

Simon Grayson has revealed to the Chronicle that Lee Cattermole has been shocked by how physically demanding the Championship is.

Cattermole has played a key role for Sunderland this season, and has started in every single on of the Black Cats’ league matches.

And Grayson has admitted that the midfielder has spoken to him about his disbelief at how tough the Championship schedule is.

The Sunderland boss said: “I spoke to Catts this morning and he said he couldn’t believe how demanding the Championship is now.”

Catteromle may be rested this evening, with Sunderland set to take on Carlisle United in the League Cup.

The Black Cats are set to make multiple changes to their side to take on the League Two team, as Grayson looks to rest his players.

Although the Wearsiders have expressed a desire to have a cup run, their priority remains to put together a strong league campaign.
