Sunderland are in action later this evening, when they take on Bolton Wanderers.

Simon Grayson has told the Sunderland Echo that he has spoken to his Sunderland side about showing far more urgency when at home.

Sunderland have spent the whole of 2017 looking to deliver a league victory at the Stadium of Light, but they haven’t been able to do so.

The Black Cats’ frustration increased further, following Sunderland’s 2-1 defeat against Bristol City at the weekend.

But Sunderland arguably have their best chance this season to finally get the home win they so desperately crave later this evening.

Grayson’s side are set to take on bottom of the table Bolton Wanderers later today.

And Grayson has urged his side to up their energy levels for the contest, as he feels it will be vital to get the supporters back on side if they are to come out on top.

“It’s something we have spoken about before every home game this season,” Grayson said.

“I want them to express themselves, I want them to run around, I want the fans to see that they are giving their all, putting crosses in, winning second balls, and playing with a real sense of purpose.

“The difference tomorrow, compared to Saturday, is that I want us to play with more urgency – when the ball goes out of play, let’s run after it and take a quick throw-in, or take a quick free-kick.

“We need more urgency to take the game to the opposition and let them worry more about us than we do about them, which has sometimes affected the players”.

Bolton are currently the only team below Sunderland, with both sides struggling this season.

The Black Cats still only have one league victory to their name, and the concerns about what direction the club is heading in are growing.

If Sunderland are beaten tonight it could spell the end for Grayson, with the pressure rising on the 47-year-old boss.
