Do Leeds have a strong enough squad to cope with the gruelling Championship season?

Simon Grayson has admitted his only concern about Leeds United this season is the size of Marceo Bielsa’s current squad.

The Whites sit top of the Championship table after the opening seven league games and host Preston on Tuesday night at Elland Road.

Bielsa has introduced a high intensity and possession-based style to the Yorkshire giants since he took charge in the summer, something that has made him an instant favourite with supporters.

But former Leeds boss Grayson has revealed he is worried about the depth in the squad and questions whether they will be able to sustain their form.

“I think that’s my only concern, that he’s (Bielsa) wanted to go with a real small squad, 18-20 players where the Championship is so demanding,” Grayson said on Sporting Life’s podcast.

“Playing with this intensity you’ve got to train like that as well, so you’re going to pick up injuries in training. Fatigue could come in later down the line, so I think a few more bodies in the window would have helped.”

Leeds do go into the Preston fixture without two senior centre-forwards in the shape of Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe, with their injuries huge blows to the side.

It has opened the door for promising 19-year-old striker Tyler Roberts to show his qualities, but after him it would fall on Under-23s products to step up.

Leeds will remember slipping away in the last campaign after such a promising start, but there is much more optimism around the club this time around under Bielsa.

They still have a core group of players that should keep momentum going on the pitch and have an experienced boss that won’t allow standards to slip.
