Sunderland drew 2-2 against Preston in the Championship clash on Saturday.
Sunderland are going through a crisis at the moment. Simon Grayson’s side are yet to win in their last nine Championship games, and find themselves in the relegation mix at the moment.
On Saturday, the Black Cats drew 2-2 against Preston at Deepdale. The Black Cats were leading 1-0 at half time, but Preston scored two quick goals in the second half to turn the tide in their favour.
Aiden McGeady scored in the 59th minute to restore parity. It was an end to end contest, and both teams looked like they could’ve won it.
Sunderland fans were happy to see the re-introduction of fan-favourite, Duncan Watmore in the second half.
Watmore, who ruptured his cruciate ligament in December, made a return after nine months on Saturday and made a big impression.
Simon Grayson was delighted with the forward’s performance. He caused all sorts of problem for Preston down the left-hand side, and was really unfortunate to come away with nothing to show for it.
The 47-year-old has showered praise on Watmore, saying he brings energy, guile and craft to the side.
“I would have started him if I had the chance but I had to go with the medical department,” said Grayson, as quoted by The Northern Echo.
“But again he showed you what he is capable of doing, he showed he’s going to run in behind and take people on.
“Duncan is going to give any team quality, with and without the ball. He has energy, guile, craft. It would have been so nice for him to score a goal – that would have been the perfect way for him to come back.”
