Sunderland are set to take on Carlisle United in the next round of the League Cup.
Grayson is yet to change his starting line-up in Championship action so far, but there was some signs that Sunderland weren’t at their best in their most recent contest with Leeds United.
The Black Cats’ unbeaten run was ended, when Leeds won 2-0 at the Stadium of Light.
And Grayson has suggested that some of the Black Cats’ fringe players may now be given a run out in the League Cup.
He said: “Tuesday, there will be changes because some players need game time and, ultimately, we want to get through to the next round of the cup.
“Ultimately, it’s two games this week and then we take stock of the whole situation. So far, we’re pleased with what we’ve done.”
Sunderland made it this round of the Carabao Cup by beating Bury 1-0 in the first round.
On that occasion the Black Cats still put out a strong team, with Grayson seemingly taking cup competition seriously.
Sunderland’s opponents Carlisle have made a fairly impressive start to their League Two season, winning two of their first three matches.
