Simon Grayson drops Sunderland team selection hint ahead of Everton clash

Sunderland are set to take on Everton at Goodison Park tomorrow.

Simon Grayson has told Sunderland’s official website that he will make changes to his line-up for their match against Everton in the Carabao Cup tomorrow evening.

Sunderland take on Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday, in the third round of the cup competition.

The Black Cats have reached this stage of the tournament by beating lower league opponents Bury and Carlisle United.

In previous rounds Grayson has rotated his squad, and it seems that team selection policy will continue to stand – even though Sunderland will be taking on a team from a higher division this time around.

“I think it’s as we have done all season. They’ll be a couple of changes,” Grayson said.

“We’ve not really worked out the numbers, but they’ll be a few changes from Saturday. That’s through forced injuries, and others who are champing at the bit for games. Whatever team we put out, we want to win the match.”

Sunderland and Everton have both made disappointing starts to their campaigns, so the cup should provide some relief.

Grayson’s Sunderland side have won just one Championship match, and sit just above the relegation zone.

Everton, meanwhile, have also experienced victory only once in the Premier League – despite having lofty expectations heading into the new campaign.

If Sunderland could pull off an upset it would heap further pressure on to Ronald Koeman, who will be eager to guard against complacency heading into the tie.
