Sunderland manager Simon Grayson is keen to assess all his options over pre-season.
Lens scored an excellent goal against Hartlepool United in a friendly yesterday.
And Grayson has suggested that Lens may still have a chance of breaking into Sunderland’s starting line-up.
“Lens… we will see, while players are contracted to the club we will look at them. It’s all about moving the squad about and seeing players in action,” Grayson said.
“It’s never easy coming into a new club, but we will work hard to get it right. What we bring in will buy into the ideas long-term we hope.’’
Lens was widely expected to leave Sunderland, after seemingly burning his bridges at the Stadium of Light.
The winger was farmed out on loan last term, with his attitude often called into question.
However, Grayson appears prepared to give Lens a fresh start, and that could benefit Sunderland.
If Grayson can get the best out of Lens, there is no doubt that he could make an impact at Championship level.
And with Sunderland’s forward options currently short, Lens may still have a chance to revive his career at the Stadium of Light.
