Sunderland are hoping to strengthen every area of their squad this summer, with Simon Grayson ringing the changes.

Simon Grayson has told the Northern Echo that Sunderland did have a transfer deal lined up, but there is some doubt involved now.

Sunderland are looking to strengthen all areas of their squad, and believed that they were edging closer to bringing a new face to the Stadium of Light.

However, Grayson has suggested that Sunderland may not get their target after all, after complications at the last minute.

“We are looking in all positions, as we are vulnerable to players leaving, we are not trying to hide that,” Grayson said.

“We may have had a deal already done, but it may not happen now and we continue to look.’’

Grayson has already been active in the transfer market since taking over at Sunderland, with new arrivals heading to Wearside.

Sunderland have snapped up James Vaughan, Aiden McGeady, Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway to improve the quality of their first-team squad.

The Black Cats won their latest friendly against Hartlepool United, but still appear to have work to do if they are to be at their best for the new Championship campaign.

Sunderland’s competitive season gets underway in August, with a match against Derby County.
