The Black Cats have gone through a massive rebuilding phase this summer, following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Simon Grayson, the new manager, has signed players of his choice, but the Black Cats are struggling badly under him.
They find themselves in the bottom three, and are yet to win in their last seven Championship games.
Grayson understands that he has a tough task at hand, but his recent comments show his negative mindset.
He has indirectly said that he cannot guarantee that Sunderland won’t be getting relegated this season.
There we find shades of David Moyes in his tone. Moyes said that Sunderland could get relegated when he was in charge of the club last season.
There is still a long way to go, and Grayson’s comments show that he doesn’t have complete faith in his abilities.
No matter how difficult the situation is, a manager should stay positive in his attitude. Grayson’s comments do not suggest so, and Sunderland fans probably will not like it.
“We have to do better and the players have to take responsibility. Can I guarantee we won’t go down? Nobody can guarantee nothing will happen like that, but there is a long way to go,” said Grayson, as quoted by The Mirror (preinted edition; September 26th – page 49).
