Sunderland have brought in seven players this summer between loan and permanent deals, but an eighth isn’t close according to the manager.

Simon Grayson has told The Sunderland Echo that he isn’t close to signing anyone at the moment, claiming that he expects to do business in the final week of the window.

The Black Cats have brought in seven players so far this summer – three of whom are only on loan – but they are yet to spend serious money, with James Vaughan and Jason Steele their most expensive acquisitions at £500,000 apiece.

Sunderland have £30 million in the bank following the sale of Jordan Pickford, combined with parachute payments after being relegated from the Premier League and although they are in debt, Grayson should, in theory, have money to spend should he want to.

The former Leeds boss has already confirmed an interest in West Ham United’s Robert Snodgrass, who cost the Irons £10 million only in January, but although Grayson says he’s in the market, the 47-year-old is not close to bringing anyone else in.

“Not at this moment in time, I think it will go to the last week, it will be busy for a lot of clubs,” he said to The Sunderland Echo when asked if arrivals were close.

“I think that is how it will be. We keep saying we are vulnerable while the window is open but we want to bring in other players as well.”

Sunderland, who missed out on winger Max Gradel following the Bournemouth man’s loan to Toulouse, host Leeds at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, with both sides winning one and drawing two of their first three Championship matches so far this season.
