Simon Grayson admits Sunderland have a problem… but he suggests it’s about to get better

Sunderland are currently in the bottom three in the Championship table.

Simon Grayson has told the Sunderland Echo that the relentless nature of the Championship season has presented Sunderland with a problem.

The Black Cats have been required to play three games a week for most of their time in the second tier so far, and that has not given Grayson much time to work with his players on the training ground.

With Sunderland struggling so badly, there is an obvious need to correct their deficiencies.

And Grayson is looking forward to the upcoming international break, when he will have time to work with his team.

“The problem is that the flow of games has been relentless and we’ve had hardly any time to work on the training pitch, it’s been play-recover, play-recover,” he said.

“Hopefully over the next few weeks if we get some of the players back and we can get some consistency in the selection and get a settled team, it will help with partnerships and confidence.”

Sunderland’s poor start to the campaign has seen them win just one of their opening nine Championship matches.

The Black Cats are in the bottom three as things stand, and there are serious concerns forming, that they could be dragged into a relegation fight.

Sunderland’s next match comes tonight against Ipswich Town, in what could be a tough test.

Ipswich have started the campaign in very impressive form, after winning five of their first eight matches.
