The Preston North End manager has his eye on Leeds’ play-off spot.
Preston manager Simon Grayson celebrates at full time
This weekend Leeds United take on Preston North End in the Championship and will welcome back a familiar face to Elland Road.
Simon Grayson is currently performing wonders at Deepdale and will be hoping to close the gap on the play-off places with a shock win at his old stomping ground.
However, he will certainly enjoy heading back to West Yorkshire. Speaking to the official Preston North End website this week Grayson admitted he loves heading back to the club, but is hoping to silence the vociferous home support:
“The fixture is special to me, to go back there, but this was always going to be a key game.
“Leeds have had some really strong form at home this year; there will be 30,000 expected – they will be expecting three points, but we will go there and try and silence the crowd, try to put a bit of pressure on them and try and build on the results we have had.
“There is no reason we can’t go there and get three points and keep building the momentum we have got.”
Grayson’s Preston side are currently eighth in the Championship and after thrashing Bristol City 5-0 in midweek are just eight points behind Leeds in fifth.
Leeds manager Simon Grayson
The Lilywhites boss, born in Ripon, started his playing career at Leeds United and went on to manage the club from December 2008 until February 2012. He guided Leeds back to the Championship from League One and his dismissal was not a popular one with the fans at Leeds United.
Grayson never managed to get Leeds back to the Premier League, now he has a chance to dent their chances yet again.
Hopefully it will not be a happy return.
