Former Celtic midfielder Simon Ferry has told Under The Cosh that he felt Neil Lennon was ‘brilliant’ during his time at Parkhead.

The likes of Kieran Tierney, James Forrest and Callum McGregor have become first-team heroes having come through the Celtic ranks in recent times, but not everybody ends up with that fate.

Ferry was one such player. He joined Celtic way back in 2000, and ended up winning a professional deal with the club in January 2006.

Sadly, the midfielder never made his Celtic first-team debut, and chose to leave the club for a permanent move to Swindon Town in 2010 following a successful loan spell.

Spells with Portsmouth, Dundee and now Peterhead have followed, with Ferry becoming quite the personality in Scottish football off the back of his media work.

Ferry has now spoken about his relationship with Celtic boss Lennon, who finds himself under pressure after a difficult start to the season.

Lennon was Celtic boss when Ferry decided to leave permanently for Swindon, and the Northern Irishman offered him words of encouragement despite frustrating antics.

Ferry has admitted that Lennon told him to ‘never change’ as his character would get him through the game, and branded Lennon ‘brilliant’ for his comments towards him.

“When I left to go to Swindon, he said ‘Never change, never change who you are. I know I was mad at you and stuff like that, but that sort of character is what will get you through football’ – he was brilliant, really good,” said Ferry.
