Celtic suffered a huge 7-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.
Former Celtic winger Simon Donnelly has rubbished Martin Keown’s claim on Twitter that the Hoops had been embarrassed in their two matches against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The Hoops suffered a 7-1 defeat to Unai Emery’s side on Wednesday night at Parc des Princes, unable to cope with the French giants’ attacking threesome of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.
Goals from Mbappe, Marco Verratti, Dani Alves and braces from Cavani and Neymar saw PSG come from behind to smash Celtic after the Scottish champions had taken the lead through Moussa Dembele.
Celtic were beaten 5-0 at Parkhead in September by PSG, and Keown claimed in his Daily Mail column that conceding 12 goals in two games against PSG was “a bit embarrassing for Celtic. A lot of the goals looked as if they were basic errors.”
However, Celtic icon Donnelly responded on his personal Twitter account by stating Keown had forgotten his former side Arsenal’s battering by Bayern Munich last season, as well as labelling Keown as ignorant to the “budget Celtic operate under”.
Despite the huge loss in Paris, Celtic remain on course to qualify for the Europa League knockout stages after Christmas as they sit in third place with three points in Group B.
Belgian champions Anderlecht are yet to pick up a point and sit in fourth, with the two sides set to go head to head on December 5. Celtic next face Motherwell in the Betfred Cup final at Hampden Park on Sunday afternoon.
