Simon Donnelly predicts Celtic and Rangers fixtures

Celtic can surpass the unbeaten record against St. Johnstone, while Rangers face Partick Thistle.

Former Celtic ace Simon Donnelly has told bookmakers Betsafe that both his old side and Rangers will earn three points this weekend.

Celtic can surpass the unbeaten record of 62 games in Scottish football set by Willie Maley’s Celtic in 1917, if they avoid defeat away at St. Johnstone on Saturday.

Interim boss Graeme Murty faces his second match in charge, in what is his second spell as caretaker manager, as the Gers play host to Partick Thistle at Ibrox.

Donnelly, 42, believes Brendan Rodgers will field a strong side in order to surpass the 62-game record, especially after drawing against Kilmarnock and losing to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The former pocket-sized star also believes Rangers will come out on top, mainly thanks to Murty’s decision to recall veteran striker Kenny Miller after Pedro Caixinha ostracised the 37-year-old during his last matches in charge.

“I think they’re [Celtic] going to beat the record,” Donnelly said. “They were flat against Kilmarnock, but I think because of the record they will play a strong side and win in style.

“I think Partick will have a difficult afternoon at Ibrox. They’ve got two wins out of the last three games and they should get top six, but Rangers have been revitalised with Kenny Miller coming back into the team.

“He orchestrated the win at Hearts, so I expect them to kick on and get the three points on Saturday.”

Miller returned to Rangers’ starting line-up last time out, scoring a brace and laying on an assist as the Gers swept a strong Hearts team aside on Tynecastle to earn all three points.

If the Gers win, they could leapfrog Neil Lennon’s Hibernian into third place if Hibs drop points against Dundee, while they will be hoping second-placed Aberdeen lose to Hamilton.

If Hamilton do get a result against Derek McInnes’ side, then Celtic could open up a gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership with only one point separating Aberdeen and the Bhoys at the moment.
