Simon Donnelly believes Brendan Rodgers is sticking around at Celtic for the foreseeable future.
Simon Donnelly has told Betsafe that he believes Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers plans on sticking around until he achieves the much-talked about 10 in a row.
Victory over Rangers at Parkhead tomorrow would see Celtic move 11 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen and surely a seventh successive Premiership title is a mere formality then.
The Northern Irishman won his first and the club’s sixth straight league crown last season without losing a match, along with the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup.
Rodgers, who replaced Ronny Deila, has been a roaring success in Glasgow and, if he stays, it’s certainly not unthinkable that Celtic will continue to dominate the domestic game.
Unfortunately, it’s only a matter of time before big Premier League clubs begin sniffing around and the former Liverpool and Swansea City manager revealed earlier this month that he rebuffed an approach from West Ham United in order to stay in Scotland.
The bigger he grows up North, the more vulnerable the Hoops are to losing him and that is certainly the fear for fans, but Donnelly, who spent six years at Celtic until 1999, can’t see him going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
“He had his time at Liverpool and went close [to winning the league title], but I just think that the things he is trying to achieve here, with the ten and it is well documented that if the club get there then everybody associated can go down in history,” he told Betsafe.
“That’s three to four seasons [more]. He’s still a young manager and has a huge future ahead of him.
“I think he is happy to stay here just now and he has made that clear in his comments and his interviews.”
