Glasgow Rangers striker Jermain Defoe won a penalty in controversial circumstances at the weekend at Ibrox.

Jermain Defoe of Rangers arrives prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Livingston and Rangers at Tony Macaroni Arena on January 27, 2019 in Livingston, United Kingdom.

In comments reported by BT Sport, Simeon Jackson has suggested that the right decision has been made concerning no retrospective action being taken against Rangers striker Jermain Defoe following the Gers’ weekend win.

Rival fans wanted the book thrown at Defoe after he won a penalty in Rangers’ 4-0 win against St Mirren. The January signing seemed to go down too easily. And despite immediately getting back to his feet, he was awarded the spot-kick.

The SFA have since decided to not take any action against Defoe. And Jackson, who was playing in the same game, insisted that he has no complaints with the Gers star avoiding punishment.

“I’m a striker, so if I feel anything near to contact and it inhibits me having a shot… You are trying to win for your team, it’s part of the game,” he said, as reported by BT Sport. “I had the same thing at Dundee. It’s one of those where you anticipate it coming, it doesn’t come, and you get straight back up on your feet.

“You are playing a high-speed game, making quick decisions, you are going to get a few of them wrong. And that’s the same for refs.”

With Aberdeen and Kilmarnock ahead in Rangers’ next two games, Gerrard will be pleased that Defoe has avoided any punishment – regardless of whether he felt that the incident needed looking into or not.

The Gers will probably feel that they need a near-flawless run between now and the end of the season to catch Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with six points currently separating the two sides.

And having Defoe available unquestionably boosts their chances of putting that kind of run together, with the Premier League legend already boasting two goals from his opening three league appearances for the Gers.
