Celtic are reportedly chasing Basel’s Silvan Widmer.

Celtic snapped up one right back on Wednesday, as Hapoel Be’er Sheva ace Hatem Abd Elhamed completed his move to Parkhead.
The Bhoys have desperately needed a couple of right backs all summer, having seen Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa leave the club in June.
Israel international Abd Elhamed will help that problem, but one more is needed – and Neil Lennon hinted to the Evening Express that Celtic are ‘down the line’ with other right backs too.
One interesting link emerged on Wednesday, as The Scottish Daily Mail (24/07 print edition, page 82) reported that Celtic are interest in Basel ace Silvan Widmer.
Now, any move for Widmer may depend on Basel’s Champions League fate, as they trail PSV Eindhoven 3-2 in their qualifying tie.
If Celtic advance through their qualifiers and Basel don’t, a move for the Swiss ace would suddenly become much more realistic.
Intriguingly though, Elliott Fillingham of the Base Soccer agency posted a photo from Parkhead for Celtic’s win over Nomme Kalju last night, and who do Base Soccer represent? None other than Silvan Widmer.
They have a host of players on their books, but that Fillingham was at the game – just hours after the reports about Widmer emerged – is very interesting.
The 26-year-old made his name in Serie A with Udinese, and that experience, alongside his international caps for Switzerland, should make him a very appealing target to the Bhoys as they seek a second right back signing in quick succession.
