Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Ollie Watkins has lavished praise upon Manchester City’s Phil Foden, naming him as the player who impressed him most in England training.

Watkins received his first England call-up last month, and it’s fair to say he got to play alongside some world class players on international duty.

The likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount were in the camp, but it was Foden who caught Watkins’ eye.

“I was in the possession box and I was looking round and thinking, Jesus. All these top players, this is where I want to be, and this is what I’ve been hoping for.

“It was mainly Phil Foden. He was silky, his balance, he just gets out of tight situations where he just makes it look easy, but it’s not.”

It’s no surprise to hear this.

If you’ve been watching Foden for the past year, you’d know that he’s progressing to become one of the best players in the country.

The youngster is showing the potential that he has been touted to have for a number of years, and the fact that he looks a class above on international duty is a testament to how talented he is.
