Swansea City moved a step closer to Premier League survival with their 2-0 victory at already relegated Sunderland, but they still may lose their star man this summer – Gylfi Sigurdsson.

According to the Mirror, both Everton and West Ham United are keen on signing the attacking midfielder at the end of the 2017/18 season for a fee in the region of £25m.

While the Swans are understandably keen to hold onto a player who has scored nine league goals and provided 13 assists this term, Sigurdsson could well be tempted by the offers.

So if he were to leave what would be his best option?

Sigurdsson has already experienced life in the upper echelons of the division, with two frustrating years at Tottenham Hotspur where things just didn’t click. Much has changed since his 2014 departure, but there is definitely evidence to argue the 27-year-old is most happy when playing as the big fish in a small pond.

At Goodison Park he might not get that. The Toffees may not be at Spurs’ level at the moment, but they are certainly pushing to try and be competing for Champions League football in the near future.

Sigurdsson would be vying for a place with the likes of Ross Barkley, Yannick Bolasie, Kevin Mirallas and Ademola Lookman in a Ronald Koeman system that often doesn’t operate with a number ten.

West Ham is a different prospect, however. When the Hammers finished seventh in 2015/16 their play all came through Dimitri Payet in behind the strikers. The Frenchman’s departure in January has played a huge part in their struggles this time around.

Sigurdsson could quite easily fill that role and in Andy Carroll would have a striker that relishes the creativity that the Iceland international provides. Yet if the Swans don’t go down would a switch to the London Stadium be a step up, or simply sideways?
