Darren Bent bizarrely told talkSPORT (01/12/20 at 8:45 am) that the ‘signs don’t look great’ for Gareth Bale at Tottenham.

And he even questioned whether he could be sent back to Real Madrid if his current situation of not earning more minutes continues.

Bale is currently on-loan at Spurs, and slowly but surely, Jose Mourinho is building him back up to the strongest levels he can reach.

But former Tottenham man, Bent, is seemingly seeing something else in regards to Bale after he was an unused substitute for the goalless draw at Stamford Bridge over the weekend.

“It’s a gradual process,” said Bent. “But, at the same time, he’s running out of time. It’s a year’s loan, so he’s running out of time.

“How long is Mourinho prepared to give him before he goes ‘you know what, this isn’t working’. All the talk about Spurs is ‘Son and Kane superb, but when Bale gets back to himself. Bale this, Bale that’.

“But, right now, he is nowhere near the Bale we can remember. Listen, he hasn’t played consistently for about three years and he’s had big injuries as well. So, that Bale may never come back.

“For me, it’s how long are they going to give him. How long are the fans prepared to give him before they go ‘listen, we cannot keep waiting on when he’s going to come back’. Bergwijn needs to be playing, Lucas Moura needs to be playing, so it’s kind of a strange one.

“At the minute, the signs don’t look great. Do you think there’s a point in the season where if it continues then it could become a distraction? Like they have to make a decision. It’s a year’s loan and if things quite haven’t gone to plan. If it continues like this. What do Spurs do? Do they send him back to Madrid? Or do they keep him?”

    £15 million; Southampton

  2. Joe Hart

    Free

  3. Matt Doherty

    £13 million; Wolves

  4. Sergio Reguilon

    £25 million; Real Madrid

  5. Gareth Bale

  6. Carlos Vinicius

Bale wasn’t used by Mourinho at Chelsea because it was more a tactical game and a defensive-minded game from both managers.

But the Welshman did start Tottenham’s Europa League game last time out and he will be expected to start once more on Thursday.

Given that Tottenham are sitting top of the league, it then allows Mourinho and his coaching staff to slowly build up Bale rather than rushing him back and forcing an injury on him of some kind.
