Manchester City are likely to target another left back in January.

Benjamin Mendy’s latest knee injury has left Manchester City with further problems at left back – and it may be time for Pep Guardiola to make a move in January.
Mendy’s injury doesn’t even have a timescale for his return, meaning midfielder Fabian Delph and the rarely-seen Oleksandar Zinchenko are likely to split time at left back.
However, a natural left back may be wanted in case Mendy’s injury problems become more frequent, and player looks to stand out from the rest ahead of January.
Real Betis left back Junior Firpo only made his first-team debut earlier this year, but is already one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe having starred with his pace and crossing ability.
Those are two attributes that have made Mendy a star with City, and few players make more sense as Guardiola’s next signing than Dominican Republic-born Spain youth international Firpo.
The Sun recently claimed that City are keen on a £44million deal for Firpo, and it’s not even just rumours and Firpo’s skillset that make him a perfect target for City.

Firpo’s agent just happens to be none other than Pere Guardiola, Pep’s brother, so whilst other clubs may fancy signing Firpo, the signs are pointing to a move to the Etihad Stadium.
Firpo is perfect for City, as he can sit behind Mendy or fill in when he is injured, playing a similar immediate role to Bernardo Silva before potentially stepping up and becoming a star in Manchester.
