Scott Brown might be Celtic’s best signing of the past month.

Celtic had a stunning January transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers signed no fewer than seven players – Timo Weah, Oliver Burke, Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Maryan Shved, Andrew Gutman, Manny Perez and Jeremy Toljan – across loan and permanent transfers.

But Rodgers’s and Peter Lawwell’s best signing might be getting Scott Brown to extend his contract.

The 33-year-old Celtic captain signed a two-year extension on Friday [official club site], snubbing a move to A-League side Western Melbourne in the process.

It’s potentially priceless for the Hoops.

Rodgers’s side are under far more pressure to deliver what would be a ninth successive Premiership title this season, bringing them one closer to a famous 10, but Rangers are determined to make a fight of it, and the truth is that the Gers would’ve been far more likely to succeed had Brown not been there.

Not only is the midfielder a brilliant player, but he is also an immense leader and his experience could be enormous for Celtic over the coming months.

There will be times when the Bhoys get jittery, and having somebody of Brown’s class on and off the field is simply invaluable.
